I find it a privilege to assist clients in their journey through life’s challenges and guiding them towards self awareness and personal growth. Since I understand that therapy can be a vulnerable place, I take pride in helping clients find joy and healing in the therapy process. I view the counseling relationship as a partnership where my skills complement the strengths my clients bring to the process. I approach each client with “unconditional positive regard” and structure each session with the individual’s needs in mind. I believe that by facilitating a nurturing environment with a client centered focus, it enhances the healing process as it relates to trauma, unresolved grief, and abuse that underlies many mental health issues.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, Licensed Addiction Counselor, and a National Certified Counselor. I completed my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling at Webster University in 2020. I formerly worked as a counselor at an addiction recovery center, where I treated individuals and their families whose lives had been devastated by addiction. In that environment, I was able to hone my skills in trauma informed care and treating co-occurring mental health disorders. I also have experience working with depression, anxiety, OCD, women’s issues and self-esteem issues. I enjoy working with adolescents, and adults of all ages.

Hello! My name is Ruzanna Carter. I am originally from Armenia but have been in the US since I was 12. I received my Masters in Art Education from USC in 2013. After teaching middle school art for 6 years at Title One schools and working with children who were struggling with anxiety, depression, sexual abuse and eating disorders I decided to switch gears and get a Masters in Art Therapy. I graduated from Lesley University in 2022 with Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy. I had a yearlong internship at the Barnabas Foundation where I worked with a diverse population ranging from child to adult, from individual to family sessions. I feel that in this field I can be more helpful to my clients, whether adolescent or adult, in helping them express their difficulties in creative ways and work through those difficulties together. I have a very eclectic style and work with each client as an individual to figure out the best course to pursue together.

Trying to live up to the expectations in life is hard, and it is important to take time out to care for yourself. As a counselor, I believe in the human capacity for healing and change. I work with adults, adolescents, and children over 6 years old, both individually and in family settings. I often work with those who are struggling to cope with grief, stress, interpersonal relationships, and substance abuse. My job is to provide a safe space for you to process your thoughts, feelings, reactions, and behaviors in order to develop a new outlook and find new ways to respond to life. I strive to empower you, helping you to make improvements that are positive, effective, and meaningful to your goals.

In my 16 years of experience, I have developed an eclectic mix of evidence-based strategies to meet your needs. My approach is strengths-based, utilizes cognitive behavioral approaches and trauma-focused practices. We will work together to bring balance to your emotional and internal responses, incorporating mindfulness and self-compassion into your treatment plan.

I can help to prepare you with the tools that you need to combat life’s challenges. Using your existing strengths, we can move forward to better manage stress, develop new coping strategies, increase your well-being, heal, build confidence, and develop healthier relationships with yourself and others. Together, we will work to understand what may no longer be serving you well. Remember, it is you who creates your story, and only you have the power to change it.
