I am a trained Creative Arts Therapist with experience ranging from young children to adults, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities, and chronic mental health issues. I completed both my Master of Arts in Clinical Art Therapy and Counseling and Bachelor of Science in Art Therapy from Long Island University, C.W. Post. While having a passion for making art, I always knew that I wanted to use my skills beyond being a professional artist. When I found the field of Creative Arts Therapy, I knew this would be my lifelong mission. It combines my love of all things creative, and my desire to help others help themselves. As a Creative Arts Therapist, I believe the use of creativity has a deeply emotional connection to ourselves and our psyche, making it an effective tool for therapy without always needing to say the words. I believe that art therapy is beneficial to all ages and provides a space for you to explore your capabilities, promoting self-esteem and personal success. Artistic expression allows for us to understand and organize our thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a way that is nonverbal and self-directed. As your therapist, I will provide support and guidance as you move through this emotional process.

My name is Tara Taylor, and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to start a journey with you! I am a licensed professional counselor and currently seeking credential as a nationally certified counselor. I graduated with a BA in Psychology from Coastal Carolina University in August 2011 and an MA in Counseling from Webster University in August of 2015. I am a lifelong Myrtle Beach, SC local, so I am aware of the ebb and flow that this town can have, as well as its effects on the lives, moods, incomes, and schedules of its residents.
I have worked with different populations throughout my 8 years in the field, including children/adolescents, couples, individuals, and those with a history of substance abuse/dual diagnoses. During internships and throughout my licensure process, I have experience in working with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar (and related) disorders, obsessive-compulsive (and related) disorders, trauma/stressor-related disorders, and substance use disorders. I have taken various positions working with different populations with the intention of being a counselor that is well-rounded, able to better understand the hardships of others, and able to tailor my style to the needs of each client.
I have the ability to be confrontational in my counseling at times. I’ve noticed that many people I have worked with have benefited from having the big picture presented to them in the simplest terms. In most cases, this helps the client realize where they are stuck and facilitates a plan toward solutions and change. My overarching goal in being your counselor is to help you help yourself. You are the pilot – I’m just here for the flight!
